Camden Roadworks This Week: Eversholt St and Pratt Street

The biggest closure in Camden is still on Eversholt Street, and it will be there until Christmas.

Eversholt Street is closed southbound between Crowndale Road and Euston Square until 30 December, for water main replacement. Transport for London records the closure on its disruption feed. It has been in place since 13 September, and northbound traffic still runs.

The new job in Camden Town starts on Monday. From 12 to 31 October the council has temporary traffic restrictions on Pratt Street between Royal College Street and Camden Street, and on Mandela Street at Pratt Street. A further restriction at the Pratt Street and Royal College Street junction follows from 2 November to 16 December.

In Holborn, Procter Street at High Holborn is restricted from 12 to 18 October, alongside a crane licence at the same junction for the same week. The Holborn resurfacing on Clerkenwell Road, Theobald’s Road, Rosebery Avenue and Gray’s Inn Road finished on 8 October.

Camden Council publishes its street works register as open data. We read it, TfL’s live disruption feed and TfL’s line status on 9 October 2026. The council uploaded the register on 8 October, and that upload is much thinner than the last one. It holds 468 entries, down from 903, of which 321 are live today.

The new file lists council licences and temporary traffic restrictions only: building, scaffold, crane and skip licences and traffic orders. The utility companies’ own works, and the plain-English descriptions that said what each job was for, are no longer in it. Some jobs we listed last week can therefore not be confirmed this week. They are set out below rather than repeated as fact.

The closures to plan around this week

• Eversholt Street, southbound, closed until 30 December. TfL lists the road as closed between Crowndale Road and Euston Square for water main replacement. Further north, between Oakley Square and Lidlington Place, temporary signals are running for telecoms work until 23 October. The council’s register also carries an HS2 traffic restriction from Drummond Crescent to Euston Square until 31 December.
• Pentonville Road eastbound at King’s Cross Bridge, until 17:00 on 10 October. Lane restrictions for Thames Water works, on the Camden and Islington boundary.
• Finchley Road northbound at Hilgrove Road, until 29 November. Lane restrictions for HS2 gas main replacement, and Hilgrove Road is closed eastbound.
• Hampstead Road northbound at Euston Road, until 18:00 on 30 October. A lane is closed for building works where the A400 meets the A501.
• Kingsway northbound at Keeley Street, until 4 November. The bus lane is closed for borough works.
• Gloucester Avenue at Parkway, until 26 October. An HS2 traffic restriction at the junction.
• Baynes Street at Royal College Street, Camden Town, until 13 November.
• North End Avenue, Hampstead, until 26 October, at the junction with North End and North End Way.
• Belsize Road, Kilburn, until 20 November, outside number 46.
• Harley Road at King Henry’s Road, Swiss Cottage, until 24 October.
• Great Ormond Street at the Lamb’s Conduit Street junction, 9 to 17 October, a traffic restriction with a crane licence for the same dates.
• Cleveland Street, Bloomsbury, until 15 October, marked as a diversion route only.

• Sunday 11 October, Cleveland Street. A special event order between Grafton Way and Maple Street.
• Pratt Street and Mandela Street, Camden Town, 12 to 31 October.

• Hampstead, 12 to 16 October: The Mount at Heath Street, and New End Square at Streatley Place.

• Drummond Crescent, beside 70 Eversholt Street, 13 to 15 October.
• Shaftesbury Avenue as a diversion route, 14 to 19 October, 20 to 25 October and 26 October. The register marks these as diversions carrying traffic through Camden, not works on the street itself.
• Sunday 18 October, Bloomsbury and King’s Cross. Special event orders cover the whole of Malet Street, Bedford Way between Gordon Square and Russell Square, Bidborough Street between Judd Street and Mabledon Place, and Flaxman Terrace. Great Russell Street along the British Museum frontage is covered on 18 and 19 October. The register does not name the event.
• Glenmore Road, Belsize Park, 19 October to 28 November, outside number 10.
• Seven Dials, 19 October to 22 January 2027. A temporary traffic restriction covering “various streets in the surrounding area”. The register gives no more detail than that.
• Drummond Street at Hampstead Road, 19 to 23 October.
• Queen Square, 19 October, outside numbers 8 to 11.
• Loveridge Road at Kilburn High Road, 20 to 23 October.
• Avenue Road at Adelaide Road, Swiss Cottage, 23 October to 23 December.

The Kingsway gantry licence at numbers 30 to 34 starts on 19 October and runs to 19 March 2027.

What we could not confirm this week

These were on last week’s page from the council’s earlier register. None appears in the 8 October upload, and we have found no other first-party source for them, so we cannot say whether they are going ahead:

• Thames Water’s trunk main repair in Russell Square (last given as 12 to 23 October). The only Russell Square entry now is a gantry licence at numbers 50 to 51.
• The signal replacement at the Gospel Oak crossroads of Agincourt Road, Southampton Road, Fleet Road and Mansfield Road. TfL’s disruption feed does not list it either.
• Footway work on Agar Grove, Sharpleshall Street, Parkway and Regent’s Park Road, and the cobble relaying in Bayham Place.
• High Holborn carriageway repairs and resurfacing from number 181a to Kingsway. The register now holds only a crane licence at 1 New Oxford Street on 17 and 18 October.
• The Kilburn High Road cycle lane work, the mobility hubs on Kelly Street and Malden Crescent, the gas works on Goods Way and at Delancey Street, the HS2 pipework on Albert Street, and the cable ducts on Frognal and Fitzjohn’s Avenue.

Their absence from the file does not mean they have finished. Check the street itself or TfL’s status page before relying on it.

Trains and tube: the fortnight in full

The Northern line has no planned closures between 9 and 25 October. That covers Camden Town, Kentish Town, Tufnell Park, Chalk Farm, Belsize Park and Hampstead. This morning there were minor delays between High Barnet and Camden Town after engineering work finished late.

• Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October, and 17 and 18 October, Lioness line. A reduced service runs between Kilburn High Road and Euston.
• Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October, Circle line. No service between Edgware Road and Aldgate via Victoria. The same closure returns on 24 and 25 October. Euston Square and King’s Cross St Pancras are on the other half of the loop and keep their Circle service.
• Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October, Thameslink. Fewer trains between Kentish Town or West Hampstead Thameslink and Bedford at the end of the Saturday service.
• Sunday 11 October, Suffragette line. No service between Gospel Oak and Barking Riverside until 09:45 and after 23:00. TfL says to use local buses and the Underground.
• Monday 12 to Friday 16 October, St Pancras. Late-night and early East Midlands Railway changes for work between Bedford and Luton.
• Friday 16 October, Mildmay line. The 21:59 from Stratford to Richmond terminates at Camden Road.
• Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October, Piccadilly line. No service between Hammersmith and Heathrow or Uxbridge. King’s Cross St Pancras, Russell Square and Holborn are not affected.
• Sunday 18 October, Mildmay line. No trains between Gospel Oak and Stratford until 11:15, and none between Camden Road and Stratford after 22:15. Replacement bus S runs.

On Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November the Lioness line drops to one train an hour between Watford Junction and Kilburn High Road, with nothing beyond it to Euston on that service.

Where the disruption is concentrated

The south of the borough carries most of it. Holborn and Covent Garden (80), Bloomsbury (51) and St Pancras and Somers Town (46) account for 177 of the 321 live entries, or 55 per cent.

It is the part of Camden with the densest construction and the HS2 works around Euston.

Great Ormond Street has the most live entries of any street, 11, most of them long-running licences around the hospital. Gray’s Inn Road has 8, and St Pancras Way and Cleveland Street have 7 each.

The long-running works to plan around

Most entries last days or weeks. A handful in Camden are effectively permanent features of the road layout:

• Mornington Street, Regent’s Park, until 24 October 2031. The longest entry on the whole register, between Park Village East and Mornington Terrace.
• Goods Way, King’s Cross, until 31 December 2030, at the entrance to the service pump.
• Montague Street, Bloomsbury, until 31 January 2029. A temporary traffic restriction alongside the British Museum.
• Lyndhurst Road, Hampstead, from 19 October to 30 April 2028. A new major temporary traffic restriction outside number 10.
• William Road, Regent’s Park, until 1 June 2028, from Hampstead Road to Stanhope Street.
• Jamestown Road and Chalk Farm Road, Camden Town, into February 2028.
• Varndell Street, Regent’s Park, until 1 February 2028, an HS2 restriction from Hampstead Road to Harrington Square. TfL lists Varndell Street as closed in both directions.
• Iverson Road, West Hampstead, from 19 October to 19 October 2027, opposite numbers 163 to 165.

A cluster of “Insight Legacy Licence” records sits in Holborn around Great Ormond Street Hospital, Guilford Street, Queen Square and Boswell Street, running to February 2028.

What Transport for London reports on the main roads

Camden’s own register does not cover the red routes, which TfL manages. On 9 October 2026 TfL’s disruption feed listed these on or at the edge of the borough.

Just over the boundary, Pentonville Road has a contraflow and temporary signals at Baron Street until 18 December, and Marylebone Road eastbound has a lane closed at Allsop Place for UK Power Networks until 23 November. Both matter if you use the A501 along the top of the Congestion Charge zone.

The key routes through Camden

Four roads carry most of the borough’s traffic. Knowing which is which saves more time than checking any live map:

• A400 runs north to south as Tottenham Court Road, Hampstead Road, Camden High Street and Kentish Town Road. It is the spine of the borough and the one most often disrupted.
• A501 Euston Road runs east to west across the middle, linking Marylebone Road to Pentonville Road. It is also the northern boundary of the Congestion Charge zone.
• A41 Finchley Road takes traffic north west through Swiss Cottage and past West Hampstead.
• A5 Kilburn High Road marks the western edge, shared with Brent.

Camden High Street: still no decision

The most significant change to driving in Camden is not a roadworks entry at all.

Since May 2025, Camden High Street has been closed to motor vehicles between the Parkway and Kentish Town Road junction, in front of Camden Town Underground station, and the junction of Jamestown Road and Hawley Crescent. Buses towards Chalk Farm run via Kentish Town Road and Hawley Crescent instead.

The council consulted on making the trial permanent, and on extending the traffic-free area across Camden Lock bridge to the Castlehaven Road junction. That consultation closed on 23 August 2026.

The council said a decision would be made in September 2026, and that a decision report would be published on its website. September has now ended without one. We checked the consultation page again on 9 October. It still shows only “Closed 23 Aug 2026”, with no outcome and no decision report. If the trial is made permanent, a further consultation on expanding the zone would follow in 2027.

Councillor James Slater, the Cabinet Member for Planning and a Sustainable Camden, said when the consultation opened that the trial “has made the area safer and more pleasant for people”. The council said surrounding roads did not see an overall increase in traffic during the trial. (Camden Council, 13 July 2026)

Driving in and out: what you will pay

• Congestion Charge, £18 a day if you pay on the day or in advance, or £21 if you pay by midnight on the third day after travel. It runs 07:00 to 18:00 Monday to Friday and 12:00 to 18:00 at weekends and on bank holidays, with no charge between Christmas Day and the New Year bank holiday. The zone’s northern edge is Euston Road, so Bloomsbury, Holborn and Fitzrovia are inside it while Camden Town, Kentish Town and Hampstead are outside.
• ULEZ covers the whole borough, as it covers all of Greater London.
• Parking across most of Camden is in a controlled parking zone, and the council publishes its live parking bay and suspension data as open data, so a suspension on your street is checkable before you move the car.

How to check your own street

• Camden’s street works register is the authoritative list, updated by the council itself: Street Works Register Camden. Each entry gives the street, the locality, what the works are, and the start and end dates.
• TfL’s road disruption feed covers the red routes the council does not manage: tfl.gov.uk/traffic/status.
• For bus diversions, TfL’s status page is more current than any register, because diversions are put on at short notice.

Is Eversholt Street closed?

Yes, southbound, between Crowndale Road and Euston Square, until 30 December 2026. TfL records it as a road closure for water main replacement. Northbound traffic is not listed as closed.

What is happening on Pratt Street?

Camden’s register has temporary traffic restrictions on Pratt Street between Royal College Street and Camden Street, and on Mandela Street at Pratt Street, from 12 to 31 October 2026. A further restriction at the Royal College Street junction runs from 2 November to 16 December.

Is the Holborn resurfacing finished?

Yes. The council’s permits for Clerkenwell Road, Theobald’s Road, Rosebery Avenue and Gray’s Inn Road ended on 8 October. Procter Street at High Holborn has a restriction from 12 to 18 October.

Is the Russell Square water main repair going ahead?

We cannot confirm it. It was on the council’s register last week for 12 to 23 October, but the register uploaded on 8 October no longer includes utility works, and Thames Water has published nothing on it that we could find.

Is the Northern line closed at weekends this month?

No. TfL’s line status shows no planned Northern line closures between 9 and 25 October 2026.

Is the Piccadilly line running through King’s Cross in October?

Yes. The closure on 17 and 18 October is between Hammersmith and Heathrow or Uxbridge, so King’s Cross St Pancras, Russell Square and Holborn keep their service.

How many roadworks are there in Camden right now?

How long will the HS2 roadworks at Euston last?

TfL’s entry for the HS2 restrictions on Hampstead Road at Robert Street runs to 31 July 2027. The council’s HS2 restriction on Varndell Street runs to 1 February 2028.
